What’s your skin type? I usually classify my skin as combination skin, but when I’m wearing makeup for a whole day, my skin winds up being more oily than it is dry. I always keep a pack of oil blotters with me when I’m out, but I’m always on the hunt for a good makeup product that helps me stay matte for as long as possible. Here are a few products that I’ve found have helped control my oily skin.
Smashbox The Original Photo Finish Foundation Primer (1 fl oz) – $36
This is probably one of the best primers I have used thus far. It glides over my skin so smoothly, but it’s not too slippery to the point where my foundation doesn’t stay in place. I use a little more than a pea sized amount all over my face, but more on the t-zone area.
Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional Face Primer (0.75 fl oz) – $32
(The bottle pictured above is actually the sample size, I threw away my full sized bottle before I remembered to take a picture)
Now I know it may seem a little extra to use more than one primer, but on humid and hotter days when I know I’m feeling a little oily, I use this primer on the areas on my cheeks/nose where my pores are the biggest. It helps contain the oil a little more and it glides on as smooth as the Smashbox primer does. I would recommend this primer if you have big pores you want to conceal.
Smashbox 24 Hour Shadow Primer (0.41 fl oz) – $21
I remember buying this product because a Youtube Beauty Guru recommended it for oily eyelids and I have never gone back to the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion since! A little goes a loooong way for this product! You only need the smallest dab of product for both eyelids and let me tell you, my hooded eyelids do not stand a chance against this primer. My shadow stays in place for an entire day and I really recommend it!
Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation (1.7 fl oz) – $39
I’m someone that hates testing out new foundations. I’ve used the same Makeup Forever HD foundation (in the wrong shade) for the past 5 years or so because I didn’t want to go through the effort of looking for a new product. This was recommended to me by a couple of friends when I finally decided to ask for suggestions on my Instagram story. I said I was looking for a “full coverage matte foundation for oily skin.” The shade range for this foundation isn’t as broad as a foundation line like Fenty, but I really do enjoy this product. I wanted something that was full coverage but also wouldn’t make my skin look dewy or oily. This foundation really does the job without making me look too cakey.
Make Up Forever Translucent Ultra HD Loose Powder (8.5g) – $36
I’ve stuck by this translucent powder for as long as I remember using makeup, and I can honestly say that I like it better than the Laura Mercier one. This powder sets my face and keeps it matte longer than the Laura Mercier setting powder. Everyone’s opinions are different, but this is what I’ve experienced.
If anyone knows of a good setting spray that helps you stay matte longer and prevent oils from breaking through, please let me know! I’m currently using the Urban Decay Allnighter Makeup Setting Spray because it’s the only one that I’ve heard good things about and it seems to keep my makeup in place, but I do end up very oily by the end of the night.
