Is Wine Actually Good For You?

You’ve probably seen those clickbait articles titled “Health Benefits of Drinking Wine” or “A Glass of Wine A Day Keeps the Doctor Away.”

Let me give you a disclaimer now and start off by saying that no, I’m not a doctor, I’m not a physician, and I’m not a scientist. So, is wine actually good for you? Let me explain what I’ve found.

Of course experts always say that everything is okay in moderation. Now according to WebMD, what we are supposed to consider to be one glass of wine is 5 ounces. A 2005 study recommends not to exceed one glass a day for women and two glasses a day for men. Now, these studies aren’t trying to convince you to have a glass of wine every single day. If you occasionally enjoy a few glasses of wine, these articles are supposed to help you enjoy it in moderation. If you aren’t really into drinking alcohol, don’t start drinking wine every day because an article tells you to.

There are studies that have said that enjoying a glass of wine now and then may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, increase “good” cholesterol, and lower “bad” cholesterol. Although there are many benefits to drinking wine, it is also important to mention that regular wine drinkers have a higher chance of exceeding the suggested intake, which may lead to an alcohol addiction, hypertension, and fatty liver.

So, is wine actually good for you? If you can manage your intake wisely, yes. Alcohol is highly addictive, which is why it is important not to abuse it. About 10-15% of those that have been exposed to alcohol are likely to develop “alcohol related issues.” Remember to drink responsibly!

I just started a new series on my YouTube channel called “Wine Down Wednesday.” This is where I sit down and film a video once a week enjoying a little more than the average glass of wine and do things that help me wind down. This series will consist of me playing computer games, talking about a topic on my mind, or whatever I feel that helps me wind down. It’s a less formal video series on my channel that allows me to post about what I want. I find it relaxing to have the creative freedom to post whatever I like to my YouTube channel.
